Which Gaga Will We Get at This Sunday's Grammy Awards?

Will we get Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, an Italian girl from New York? Ally Maine? Enigma? The second coming of Jo Calderone? An amalgamation? A hologram?

This Sunday night, at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, a star who has been born (and re-born!) will grace the red carpet once more. But who will it be? Will we get Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, an Italian girl from New York? Will we get Ally Maine? Or Enigma? Or the second coming of Jo Calderone? An amalgamation? A hologram?

It’s anyone’s guess, really, and a rare off-road in the NYU-dropout-turned-Academy-nominated-thespian’s A Star Is Born press cycle, which is crawling into month six after the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August.

The Grammy Awards are Gaga’s home turf. She’s won 6 (with 24 nominations). She’s attended seven (2010-2012, 2015-). She’s performing for the fifth year in a row. But Mother Monster isn’t so much in the building as of late, with Lady Gaga the Actress (capital A) and her refined, old Hollywood-inspired fashions in the driver’s seat. Periwinkle Valentino Haute Couture for the Golden Globes. White Dior Haute Couture for the SAG Awards. Blush Calvin Klein by Appointment for Critics Choice.

With the ultimate crescendo (the Academy Awards) less than three weeks away, will team Gaga, which is comprised of stylists Tom Eerebout and Sandra Amador, keep it couture?

If yes, may we humbly suggest: Schiaparelli Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2019:

There’s history here: She recently wore the brand during opening night of opening night of Lady Gaga Jazz and Piano

Or perhaps: Givenchy Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2019:

This is also a recent Gaga go-to, having worn a Clare Waight Keller creation at the ASIB LA premiere.

But then there’s the possibility of Enigma, Gaga’s current Vegas residency persona jumping out… or a persona more in line with past Grammy looks (remember when she arrived in the egg?). It would be a nice tie-in to the Vegas show, and could give fans clamoring for an #LG6 announcement the shaking of the table they’re, well… shaking for.

If yes, may we humbly suggest something from Iris Van Herpen Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2011:

There’s history here, too: Gaga wore the brand while promoting ASIB in Toronto. And the look feels very connected to the Asher Levine custom creations she’s been wearing on the Vegas stage mixed with her Born This Way-era aesthetics.

Or perhaps Mugler Fall/Winter 2012:

Of course Gaga loves Mugler (she modeled their Spring/Summer 2012 womenswear and walked their runway), so this would be a nice return to The Fame-era Gaga.

Either direction, it’s going to have the anticipation of an opening or a closing, as Gaga’s second-to-last A Star Is Born red carpet and perhaps the beginning of her return to pop superstardom. We’re here for either, really, but just between us squirrels here’s to hoping for another arriving-in-an-egg moment. It’s what we deserve.
