Going Gritty with Linder Menswear FW19
Photographer Rémi Pujol recontextualizes Linder's latest collection in an exclusive GARAGE editorial.

After the debut of Linder's latest menswear collection during NYFW:M, designer Kirk Millar and stylist Gaultier Desandre Navarre discussed a possible shoot that would give the clothes a different sensibility, one that was darker—even, as Millar describes, seedier. The pair recruited photographer Rémi Pujol to help fully realize the project.
"Theres the play of masculine sensitivity and aggression in each collection," Millar explains when asked about the collection. "It's very much a narrative that's swirling around and reflects whats going on inside of me emotionally. I think theres a lot of discussion about 'inspiration' but I'm always inclined to eclectically pull things together, so in turn hopefully create something idiosyncratic, and very personal. My hope is that the work being related to my emotional life also makes the audience feel seen by the work's message."
Asked for his thoughts on the state of New York Fashion Week: Men's, which has greatly shifted in scope since its debut in 2015, Millar is refreshingly honest: "We as a fashion hub need to strengthen our support of the creatives who add a different voice to NYFW:M. I think we are well on our way, but I believe we still have work to do to really see talent and support those creative voices and not just commercial ones. There are other fashion capitals that have an appreciation for that and a standard of work...I personally believe we should push to get there, the week would be stronger. But we need a strong visionary to lead that march, and at the moment I don't see one."
